Ernie Els
The Sports HQ is delighted to be associated with 2012 Open Champion Ernie
Els, one of the finest and most successful golfers in the history of the sport.
The iconic South African has won more than 60 tournaments since becoming a
professional in 1989, including four majors, two World Golf Championships
and a record seven World Matchplay titles.
Nicknamed “Big Easy”, the appropriately monikered six-foot plus Els possesses
one of the purest, smoothest golf swings in the game that produce immense power.
When coupled with his easy-going persona on the course, it’s clear to see why
Els is among the most popular golfers on Tour.
A former World No.1, Els’ classic style is adaptable to any venue. One of the
world’s truly global golfers, he has won tournaments the world over – South
Africa, Europe, US, Asia, Far East, Middle East and Australasia. Inducted into
the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011, Els continues to be a prolific force on
both European and US PGA Tours.
He not only has an internationally renowned sporting pedigree, but Els has
also devoted much of his time to philanthropic efforts, notably his work with
charities devoted to the battle against autism.
Els has to date raised over US$9 million in contributions and fund-raising
efforts, and last year inaugurated the Els for Autism Golf Challenge which
raised US$1.8 million.
CEO Simon Millington said "Having such a high-profile golfer as Ernie on Tour
as our Brand Ambassador is fantastic.”
