Golf Clothing – Colour Blind
Golf Clothing – Colour Blind
There are some golf clothing designs that are so loud it's
enough to put you off your swing.
Golf clothing to get you noticed
Trousers can be so boring. Neon polka dots on shocking yellow
anyone? If you aren't shining in your game you can get golf clothing
that will get you noticed. Golf clothing can be retro, it can be
stylish, it can even be cool if you are Samuel L Jackson, but there are
some golf clothing designs that simply should not be allowed on the
golf course. Golf clothing has come a long way in recent years, and is
shrugging off the nerdy image, but wacky trousers don't help the cause.
Loud pants
Nothing screams immature adult more than obnoxiously loud pants on
the golf course. But some designers beg to differ. Scott Woodworth
specialises in obscene golf clothing such as loud pants. “If
you're uptight, self-conscious, and care more about your golf score
than the experience, then these pants are not for you,” Woodworth
has said. I guess if you can't win on skill and talent with the game,
you could shock your opponent into losing.
Jesper Parnevik
But there are a few golfing pros who have become notorious for their
loud golf clothing, such as Jesper Parnevik, who has been spotted in a
bright array of tight-fitting golf clothes. He may have thought he was
bringing style back to golf clothing, but as Fox Sports put it:
“Everyone else thought he was nuts.”
Golf clothing shock
And Parnevik was aware of the shock waves his golf clothing caused:
“There were a lot of frowns when I stepped onto the range,”
Parnevik told Fox news. At the Players Championship he was spotted in
aqua pants, a white belt and a turquoise shirt with orange down the
side. Ouch! But he wasn't alone with his bad golf clothing style
– Darren Clarke was also dressed head to toe in bright orange at
one tournament and Hunter Mahan is known for his pink pants and
matching hat.
Golf clothing in the 80s
It was the1980s flair for colour and pattern that gave golf clothing
a bad reputation, but despite the more conservative nineties, Parnevik
is managing to single-handedly keep the eighties in vogue.
But many of the fashion blunders with golf clothing are well
meaning. The fact is, golf is a stylish game and most golfers want to
reflect that style through their clothes.
As Phil Mickelson said, who has been seen in bright orange, green,
even golf glitter on the golf course, golf clothing can be cool:
“I think it's cool that guys use dress to stand apart. It seems
as though fashion is always changing, and it's just become a part of
golf.”
