Golf Trolley – Pull trolleys, Ditch the Caddy
Golf Trolley – Pull trolleys, Ditch the Caddy
There are plenty of humorous tales of caddies’
mistakes over the years – more reason to forget the caddy and
pull your own golf trolley.
Pull your own golf trolley
One good reason to pull your own golf trolley includes the instance
when a caddy at the start of his career became known as ‘Two
Shots’. The nickname came about after two occasions which
resulted in the golfer being penalized. The first was when a ball
landed just yards from the deep rough. When the golfer said,
“Gee, that was lucky” the caddy replied: “It sure
was, if it hadn’t hit the bag it would have been in that thick
grass over there!” One good reason why sometimes it makes more
sense to pull your own golf trolley!
Sack the Caddy!
The second occasion was a few weeks later with the same caddy. He
dropped a club head cover and ran back to get it, asking a friend to
take the bag on to his golfer. The golfer was penalized, as the rules
state you can only have one caddy, by using the assistance of another,
it counted as two. If only the golfer had been in charge of his bag
using golf trolley or pull trolleys!
Get a golf trolley
Pulling your own golf trolley
and pull trolleys can even look more appealing next to veteran tour
caddies. On one US PGA Tour, a seasoned caddy laid his player’s
golf bag behind a big tree to avoid any stray shots hitting the bag and
incurring a penalty. But a well meaning Marshall had moved the bag
– his golfer bizarrely ended up hitting his next shot into his
own golf bag!
It shouldn’t happen to a Caddy
Next time you’re wheeling your own golf bag around on a golf
trolley or pull trolleys and bemoaning the fact you don’t have
your own personal caddy to carry your bags for you, remember these
stories. In the 1980s US Tour, Leonard Thompson was about to putt a
ball into the hole. His caddy lifted the pin for the ball to go in, but
a tee peg fell from behind his ear into the path of the putt. The ball
hit the peg.
Appreciate your golf trolley
You’ll appreciate pulling your golf trolley when you think
about Ignacio Garrido in the 1999 European Tour. His caddy had added an
extra golf club to his bag after hitting a few shots for himself on the
practice range. He forgot to take it out, and Garrido got a four shot
penalty, which wouldn’t have been so bad – but he came
second to Colin Montgomery by two shots. Ouch! Perhaps the
professionals would be better off looking after their own golf bags and
investing in good quality golf trolley or pull trolleys!
