Maybe it would make a nice umbrella stand at home?” He felt fashion statements were out of place on the golf course, and golf clothing should simply be functional.

Many serious golfers believe that the thing about golf clothes is that they reflect the fact that golf is not meant to be cool. People still dress quite formally. Some believe however as more and more woman take up the game, golf clothing will get better.

Fashion changes afoot

Nevertheless, fashion changes are afoot in golf. Time magazine even noted that golf clothing manufacturers are starting to realise that style on the golf course is important. In America , two out of three golfers are women.

“At Dior, John Galliano - who has never picked up a club in his life - has created a line of offbeat golf clothing and accessories, including a pink-and-yellow, Argyle-patterned golf bag and knickers," observed Time magazine.

A look for everyone

But now there is a look for everybody on the golf course with designer golf clothing, retro golf clothing and urban cool golf clothing – check out what Justin Timberlake is wearing this season on the golf course. But according to the Canadian newspaper, the Toronto Star, the retro look is increasingly popular with grandchildren pilfering their grandparents' closets for clothes to get that Bob Hope look.
