Golf News - Gary Wolstenholm starts pro career over par
Walker Cup legend Gary Wolstenholme is trailing on 77 after an
over-par finish in his first professional round at the European
Tour’s Q-School – currently being held in Scotland.
After entering the professional league veteran Wolstenholme finished
his first day five-over 77 in gruelling conditions to place him eight
shots behind Craig Goodfellow on 3-under 69 – the only player to
achieve a below-par round. Former amateur champion Warren Bladon is
currently sat tied in second place on 72 with two other players.
Andy Smith is currently in pole position at Chart Hills after
finishing his first day 7-under 65 – leaving him in second place
on the leader-board – two shots behind leader Oskar Henningsson.
Mark O’Sullivan has posted 66 whilst Rhys Davies – an
ex-Walker Cup player closed with 67. In Germany, former world amateur
champion Danny Willett who turned professional earlier in the season
– started confidently on 4-under 68.
Ian Keenan (Royal Liverpool Golf Clubs) has finished his opening day
with a 67, whilst Mervyn Owens (Ireland) posted 68.
