Golf News - Dominican Republic Receives Boost From Private
Investment
The Dominican Republic is quickly earning itself a reputation as one
of the most hotly anticipated destinations for golf
– thanks to considerable private investment in
infrastructure including the International Airport, developed and
operated by the same consortium responsible for the development of the
Punta Cana Resort and Corales Golf Course.
Up to 1 million visitors fly into the resort from international
locations in America, Europe and UK –
it’s fair to say that golf development and tourism
in the Dominican Republic is prolific.
Except for the odd hurricane which is expected the Caribbean resort
is bathed in outstanding weather for much of the year. The area boasts
an abundance of affordable and attentive labour, whilst its natural
surroundings are unmatched throughout the world. Additional assistance
from the federal government to boost tourism, including the development
of local infrastructure to and from its airport is welcomed.
The golf scene exploded in the early seventies in a country that was
previously recognised on the world stage for its production of sugar.
Investment from the private sector has seen the development of its
north-east coastline explode in recent times.
