Golf News | Darren Clarke ends five-year winless streak

Darren Clarke has had many impressive wins under his belt, winning two World Golf Championships, out playing Tiger Woods to take that glory, and has won three English Opens in addition to the European Open and the Volvo Masters. However his victory in the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai is taken lightly, the significance of such a win meaning a great deal to the Northern Irish Pro.

Clarke had not taken glory in the European Tour for almost five years. This victory brings his total of tour titles to 11 and has stopped his plummeting world ranking from falling below 236 that he had dropped to. This win has changed his positioning in many league tables and can expect to see his place in the worlds rankings rise as a result. He will need to break in the top 50 rankings amongst Woods, Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington, to qualify for the major championships.

Nick Faldo has taken particular interest in Clarke's return to his former standard. The captain of the Europe team is preparing to take on the United States in the Ryder Cup match at Valhalla, Kentucky, in September.
