Golf News - Annika Sorenstam ends prolific career at Nykredit
Masters
The Nykredit Masters signalled the end of one of
golf’s most celebrated lady golfers
– Annika Sorenstam. Sorenstam finished her
professional career in Europe with a third place finish at the
tournament. Sorenstam closed on 2-under 71 in the Ladies European Tour
event – finishing some five shots behind Martina
Eberl.
Sweden’s finest golf export scored three birdies
and one bogey to finish the European event on 9-under 210. The golfing
legend that is Sorenstam has 10 major tournament wins and 72 LPGA
titles to her name, including three LPGA victories this season. The
Swede decided to retire this year to pursue her own business interests.
The overall winner tied with Sorenstam in second place before the
final round – she overcame a 6-shot shortfall to
secure the title – one stroke ahead of
England’s Melissa Reid – shooting
66 including eight birdies and one bogey to finish on 14-under 205. It
was the German’s second win in Europe since
beginning her profession European career in 2003.
