Golf News - U.S. golf equipment manufacturers shut
down counterfeiting operation
It has recently been announced that a task-force of
American golf equipment
manufacturers have scored a victory against the mass-production of
counterfeit golf equipment, with the news of the
sentencing of a Chinese national for selling counterfeit products.
The person in question was sentenced to 3 and half
months and was demanded to pay a record fine equating to $58,000.
It has now been discovered that his entire
counterfeit operation had been managed from a premise within Youngkang
City – running from March to July, 2007. All
counterfeit golf
clubs were acquired with full branding and trademarks present from
the anti-counterfeiting working group of golf equipment
manufacturers – all goods were then sold to American
and Canadian customers through the Internet and Direct Marketing
channels. It is believed that his illegal operation generated some
$153,000 in sales.
The anti-counterfeiting group lead all efforts to
lead to the capture and arrest of the main suspect. A raid on the
factory followed an extensive investigation, conducted by the Chinese
administration for Industry and Commerce. The raid led to the capture
of over 1,500 golf clubs and 4,500 golf balls.
The American anti-counterfeiting group consists of
the following manufacturers of golf equipment:
Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra – in addition to
Callaway, Cleveland Golf, Nike Golf, Ping and TaylorMade-Adidas Golf.
