Open
Park Inbee became youngest player to claim the U.S
Women’s Open title. The South Korean achieved this record at the
Interlachen Country Club with a four-shot victory. The 19 year old came
back from being two strokes out of pace going into the final round. On
the first two shots Inbee shot two birdies earning her way to a
two-under-par 71.
The gusting winds in the field proved too much of a
challenge for her closet contester to the title, allowing Inbee to take
her maiden LPGA Tour title.
Pak Se-ri was previously the youngest title winner of this event,
winning the tournament in 1998 aged 20. Inbee’s title win raises
also qualifies her as the third youngest woman to win a major
championship. Morgan Pressel, the American pro was only 18 last year
when she won the Kraft Nabisco Championship and at 19 years old Yani
Tseng took victory earlier this month at the LPGA Championship.
