Golf Clubs - Bridgestone - New Deal on the Cards
In a period of time renowned for new contracts and
renegotiating existing ones – it has been speculated that a new
deal between Charles Howell III and Bridgestone could be announced
shortly, in a deal that would see Charles using Bridgestone golf balls
and golf clubs.
Howell could be using balls and clubs as soon as the Merrilll Lynch
Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club in Florida. Howell had been allowed an
early release from his contract with Callaway Golf.
Charles had used Callaway golf equipment since 2000 after turning
professional and has since been prominent in all marketing
communications from the golf equipment manufacturer. Having earned his
second PGA Tour win in 2008 and coming 18th on golf’s big money
list. He was supposedly denied the use of a Callaway driver designed
specifically for the Asian market, causing him to request the early
termination of his sponsorship deal.
Callaway has confirmed that his sponsorship contract was not about to
expire – yet failed to confirm with the media how long Howell had
left on his contract or reasons for quitting.
The deal with Bridgestone would see Howell join an impressive line-up
of PGA Tour players, including Fred Couples, Brandt Snedeker and Stuart
Appleby. Howell’s ranking would see him becoming the team’s
highest ranking player.
