Getting there

All airlines have now upped their security requirements, and golfers heading for sunny Spain are advised that golf tees, ball marker tools and other sharp equipment and accessories must be packed in luggage that will be stored in the hold of the aircraft.  No sharp objects will be allowed in the cabin.  Similarly all golf clubs will need to go into the hold, so don’t bank on keeping your favourite club with you for company on the flight!

An abundance of courses
There are about 40 golf courses along the Costa del Sol between Malaga and Gibraltar, and the Spanish tourist industry loves golfers.  They spend more money than the average tourists, and provide an all year round cash boost for the resorts from the minute they place their golf tees on the course, or hit the golf carts with their equipment and accessories. Golf is also a driving force (pun intentional!) behind the Costa Del Sol property market, with villas and apartments on golf club developments commanding premium prices.

 Building permits
It is possible, too, that demand for property on golf courses will get a boost from the problems over building permits that have been coming to light on some parts of the Costa del Sol, as it is more likely that property on a golf course will have the appropriate licences: golf course developments are big projects that generally require a serious approach on the part of the developer.  Also some of the golf courses bear the name of some of the sports most famous players who wouldn’t want to tee off or haul their golf equipment and accessories around a dodgy enterprise.

Appealing to the non-golfers
What is more, golf club developments these days have features that appeal to non-golfers. They've always had the attraction of all that green space that's guaranteed not to be built up, and a clubhouse to provide a ready-made community focus, but now the better ones also offer gyms, spas, pools, tennis courts and other leisure facilities.  This means that the golfers in the party can hit the green with their tees, balls, clubs and other equipment and accessories, and the non-golfers can take advantage of the other sports and spas on offer.
