Bollywood movie stars and local cricket stars abandon their equipment to take part in The Blue Billion' campaign.
For the first time ever, Bollywood movie stars and local Indian cricket stars have abandoned their usual equipment and joined forces to take part in an advert campaign for Pepsi India called the Blue Billion' campaign. As India 's passion for cricket grows more and more each day, Pepsi India believe that the famous team are fully equipped to endorse their latest campaign.
Coinciding with the ICC Cricket Champions trophy which began in October 2006, Pepsi have decided to make a series of television commercials that aim to cash in on the fever that is cricket in India . It has been proposed that a selection of Bollywood movie stars and cricket players will abandon their equipment in favour of making up the star cast for the commercials.
The adverts will be entitled Cup Fever' and, according to officials, the films have been made "from a cricket fan's perspective, and capture the insight that India wants to be fully equipped to bring home the cricket World Cup. Both films, which are each 30-seconds in length, have been created by Pepsi's regular ad agency HTA, and directed by advert movie maker Sunil Sippy.
The adverts will feature Bollywood movie stars and cricket players in honest conversations with the audience. For example, on one advert there is Sourav Ganguly, the ex-captain of the Indian cricket team, paired with Shah Rukh Khan, the King' of Bollywood, talking about the most controversial claims encircling their lives and how they are equipped to deal with the pressure.
The campaign, the `Blue Billion', which has a catch line, `Oooh Aaah India , Aaah Yaaa India ', is being unveiled in stages that will continue right through the ICC Champions Trophy to the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The Blue Billion also features a music video which contains the recent movie stars of the Hindi film industry. Another idea that the campaign have endorsed is wrappers around Pepsi bottles which have gifts entitled to the consumers printed on them, ranging from `Blue Billion' tattoos to other assorted equipment.
The main highlight of the campaign is the opportunity to purchase 300 free season tickets for the cricket World Cup which will be issued to 300 people through the bottle wrappers. The winners will be taken on a special `Blue Billion Express' train to the three venues in India where the ICC Champions Trophy cricket matches will be played. Accompanying them in the train will be film stars Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu," said Mr Vipul Shah, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, PepsiCo India .
