Cricket Equipment – The Movies – The Cricket In Times Square

Cricket Equipment The Movies - The Cricket In Times Square

For a bit of light relief from the cricket pitch, why not abandon your cricket equipment and watch a movie?

If you're cricket mad then the movie, The Cricket in Times Square will provide some light relief for you after a hard day on the pitch. Although the movie is not actually about the type of cricket you'll be used to, it's still a great watch. So, why not abandon your cricket equipment for a couple of hours and see what this movie has to offer.

The movie was created in 1973 and is about a cricket called Chester Cricket who gets trapped inside a picnic basket and transported from his home in Connecticut to the middle of New York City . Alone and lost, he meets up with Harry and Tucker, a cat and mouse that have somehow become friends, and with Mario, a young boy who works with his father at a Times Square newsstand. When it's discovered that Chester can play songs he hears from the radio just by rubbing his legs, people begin to come from all around to listen. Though Chester is happy with his new-found friends, he will eventually have to say good-bye and return to his home.

The sequel to this movie is A Very Merry Cricket which proved to be just as successful at the box office. The movie is equipped with fun and "human" interest, as the characters created by children's author George Selden continue their merry adventures. This time around, Chester the cricket is back in New York to spend Christmas with his friends Harry the cat and Tucker the mouse. The hustling, bustling, sometimes unfeeling city learns a little about the power of Christmas and honest simplicity, especially when this visiting country cricket stops traffic in its tracks with a haunting rendition of "Silent Night" played on his wings. Seasonal warmth is the order of the day, along with loads of goofy fun. So, if you're desperate to get into the Christmas mood, this film has all the equipment you'll need.

If you like movies with a cricket based theme then a final movie worth watching is the 1917 movie, The Cricket, directed by Elsie Jane Wilson and starring Zoe Rae. Living in poverty in Paris ' Latin Quarter , the orphaned Cricket (Rae) is jointly "adopted" by a trio of starving artists. As the girl's three foster fathers go through the usual quarrels and reconciliations, our heroine quietly begins a stage career, playing the "lead fairy" in a pantomime production. Years later, the grown-up Cricket (now played by Penn Rogers) has become equipped as a popular stage star, while her ubiquitous "daddies" devote their time to finding a suitable sweetheart for the heroine. Evidently they succeed, since in the final scene Cricket's daughter (also played by Zoe Rae) is afforded several close-ups. This film has all the equipment necessary to make it a great watch.
