Sachin Tendulkar's Milestone
Friday, 20th July 2007
Sachin Tendulkar today surpassed Steve Waugh to
become the third highest Test Match Run scorer of all time. Playing in
the First Test against England, he needed just six runs to achieve this
milestone, which he easily did.
He was given this opportunity after England slumped
to 298 all out, after reaching a promising 268-4. However, the Indians
fired through England's bottom seven batsman, conceding just 22 runs off
the bat.
There was some controversy over a Kevin Pietersen
decision, who, after edging the ball, walked off the pitch without
waiting to see the umpire's decision. However, after watching a replay,
his England team mates, such as Michael Vaughan and Monty Panesar, urged
him to return to the crease. Simon Taufel eventually decided that the
ball bounced just short of the wicket keeper, and so Pietersen survived.
Just balls later, though, another chance flew off the edge of his
Woodworm cricket bat, flying straight into the keeper's hands.
After comprehensively beating the West Indies earlier
this year, India will surely prove a stronger opponent and greater
challenge. |
