England’s Robert Rock has been disqualified from the 3 Irish Open at the Killarney Golf Club for signing a wrong score.
The Englishman finished on 6 under par 65 and was the leader when he entered the Clubhouse, but he did not spot that he had entered par for the 14th and a birdie for the 15th on his scorecard, when it should have been the other way around
"I checked it, but didn't see it and it's my job to do that.I don't think I've been disqualified for anything before. I'd have preferred it to be after an 80!"
"What else can you do?" added Rock. "I've gone through the same process I always do and I've done a lot over eight years, but this time I just missed it.
It is Lowreys second disappointment in the Irish Open. Last year he lost to Amateur golfer, Irishman Shane Lowry in a play-off, although he was still able to claim the first prize money as Lowry could not accept it.
Bizarrely Francesco Molinari was also disqualified when he too signed for a wrong score.
England’s David Howell is the overnight leader. He finished the day on seven under 64
