Golf-Hoffman wins The Deutsche Bank Championship

American Charley Hoffman has won the second of the FedEx Cup play-offs-The Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

The 33 year old, who is ranked 132nd in the world has only had one other win in his previous 297 US Tour Events.

In a final round that contained 11 birdies, Hoffman shot 62, his lowest ever personnel score to win by 5 shots. He moves into second place in the play-off standings behind last week’s Barclays winner Matt Kuchar

Luke Donald, one of the European Ryder Cup wild card picks, was 33 at the turn, but had three bogeys from the 14th and fell back into second place with Jason Day and Geoff Ogilvy.

Hoffman was 4 behind Day at the beginning of the day, but started gaining shots after four successive birdies from the second. He went one in front at the 13th, when he sank a bunker shot. He picked up more shots on the 15, 16th and finished on the 18th with a two putt four.

Tiger Woods still remains the world number one despite finishing tied 12th, Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker once again missing the opportunity to take over the spot.

Mickelson needed to finish in the top three, but ended up 25th, while Stricker had to win, but finished ninth
